1. 现在分词一般不能和very连用，要用much，quite或其他词。

例如：

The theory sounds quite convincing。这意见听起来很有说服力。

又如：不能说very screaming(尖声喊叫的)，children必须使用像这样的词continually or loudly screaming children;singing birds也不可说成very singing birds等等。

very只可能和已转用为形容词的现在分词连用，例如：very interesting(很有趣)，very exciting(非常令人兴奋)等。

顺便说一下，在有的副词前不用very要用well，quite表示“很，非常，完全”之意。

例如：

(1) I should much like to come。我很想来。

(2) They closely resemble each other in appearance。他们的外貌很相似。

(3) By doing so you will greatly oblige us。您这样做将使我们非常感激。

(4) He is well grounded in the English language。他的英语有很好的基础。

2. 在过去分词用作谓语动词时不可和very连用，要用much，very much或quite等说明程度。

例如：

(1) The financial situation seems to be much/very much improved。(不能说very improved)财政状况似乎有很大好转。

(2) Britain's trade position has been much/very much weakened by inflation。通货膨胀很大程度上削弱了英国的贸易地位。

(3) Ted was most surprised when he heard the news。特德听到这个消息很吃惊。

当过去分词指的是一种状态或性质时，可和very连用。

例如：

(1) a very frightened animal一只极度受惊的动物

(2) a very complicated problem一个很复杂的问题

当过去分词用作谓语动词，但表示一个人对某事的反应时，可与very连用。
